 His Holiness Pujya Shri Maharajshri was born on 25th July, 1911, in Maharai, a village in Varanasi. His childhood name was Shantanubihari.
Astrologers predicted that He would live only for 19 years. The fear of death led him towards the spiritul path. All the great Saints said that, although destined death could not be averted , they could impart such knowledge by way of which fear of death could be overcome. The knowledge imparted by the Saints so enlightened his soul that death itself was conqured.
Shri Maharajshri then went to a place called Jhusi in Prayag, (which is the confluence of the 3 sacred rivers-Ganga, Jamuna and Sarswati) to meet Brahmachari Prabhuduttji . There he met Shri Udiya Babaji Maharaj and they had a discussion on Vedanta. He was highly impressed by Babaji’s intense devotion and his bliss in renuniation of wordly life. He was blessed by Babaji’s grace and compassion. Inspired by Babaji, Shri Maharajshri took ‘Sanyas’ (renuniation of worldly life.) Swami Shri Brahmanandji Sarswati, a renowned authority on astrology and a Shankaracharya rendered him the ‘Sanyas-Diksha.’
Shri Maharajshri’s grandfather made him study ‘Srimad Bhagwat’ (a holy book) from the age of 10, which remained as his faithful companion throughout his lifetime. Besides this, He was the Supreme Authority on all the Holy Scriptures. His daily ‘Satsang’ (Spiritual Discourse ) was an integral part of his life. Even today, Satsang-lovers avail of his invaluable Satsang through Audio/Video CD-DVD and books.
On 19th November, 1987 Shri Maharajshri attained ‘Samadhi’ (Nirvan-Union with the Infinite). It was evident that Shri Maharajshri loved one and all-whether they ware flowers of other faiths, rich or poor, old or young-whosoever came to Him with hope was never disappointed. He showered his Divine Blessing on all througghout his life.
Shri Maharajshr’s ‘Anand-Vrindavan Ashram’ in Vrindavan(in Uttarpradesh in India) is a holy abode, where unison of knowledge, devotion and action prevails. In the Ashram various activites, such as Satsang, Thakur-Seva, (worship of the Lord), looking after cows, serving the Saints, studying of the Vedic Scriptures, Swami Shri Akhandananda pustkalya, Swami Shri Akhandananda Audio visual library, free medical treatment, etc. are pursued. Besides the socio-cultural, yearly birth-celebrations of all the Saints and Teachers, initiated by Shri Maharajshri are remembered till today. This is the best example of Shri Maharajshri’s generosity.
